If you get this error in your designer when working with XAML in Visual Studio 2008...make sure you dont have any visual elements that inherit from an abstract class.  May seem obvious but can be easily missed.

Could not create an instance of type '{0}'

Thanx for the tip!!! <br>I was having the same problem... and the fact that my program would run fine... but could not show a specific form in xaml designer was driving me nuts...<br><br>It somehow looks obvious... just after you find out what was wrong with it at the first place....

Thanks a lot! After installing VS2008, SP1, I had the same problem, classes derived from an abstract base class could not be loaded any more into the VS designer, showing the error "Could not create an instance of type <BaseClass>. At runtime, no problems occurred. Before SP1, the designer worked fine with these classes.

Hi, I have the same error when update VS 2008 to SP1. Can you show me how to fix it? In my program, I don't know what visual elements that inherit from an abstract class. Thank a lot !

Thank you for pointing out..i am also getting that. Can this be solved so that we can see design view?

Your shared information saved a few of my nerves that are left :). All I needed was to remove the abstract keyword from my base user control. Thank you!
